4:00–5:00 PM – Meet Your Camel Caravan Your desert adventure begins near Merzouga, where you'll meet your camel handlers and prepare for the journey into Erg Chebbi. After a brief introduction and instructions for safely mounting and riding your camel, climb aboard and begin your trek. Departure time varies according to the season and sunset time.
Leave the desert edge behind and enter the spectacular dunes of Erg Chebbi. Your camel moves steadily across the sand while your guide leads the caravan deeper into the Sahara. As you gain distance from the road and surrounding settlements, the silence of the desert becomes increasingly noticeable. The route takes you between towering dunes and across broad sandy valleys, offering spectacular views in every direction.
Reach a suitable dune ridge or viewpoint in time for sunset. Climb to the top and watch the final rays of sunlight sweep across the Erg Chebbi landscape. The dunes gradually transform from golden yellow to deep orange and red as the sun drops below the horizon. This is the perfect moment for photographs, quiet reflection and simply taking in the scale of the Sahara.
Once darkness begins to settle, return to your camel and continue toward your desert camp. Follow the caravan through the evening landscape, with the first lights of the camp gradually appearing between the dunes.
